In the enterprise, although the design concept is similar, most business
owners are more concerned with protecting their property. Their primary
concern is that someone may break in and attempt to steal their money,
company secrets, intellectual property, computer equipment or other valuable
goods or documents. While preventing this is very important they may also
want to catch the potential criminal during the attempt.
Intrusion Detection
Commercial security systems are designed to protect property. Placing
door sensors and motion sensors in strategic areas help to limit the loss
exposure in an unoccupied facility. Infrared devices that detect radiant
energy (heat) can be placed in environmentally controlled office areas.
Microwave and combination detectors are more useful in the non-static
environments of warehouses and areas with greater temperature fluctuations.
Video Surveillance
Video surveillance is another way to enhance loss prevention by observing
the occupants of a facility and monitoring unsafe work habits and deterring
theft. By placing a video camera in a selected area and placing the proper
devices on the company computer network the images can be viewed anywhere
the network is accessible. This access is password protected and these
video images can even be configured to be accessed over the Internet.
